New Order’s debut single “Ceremony” released on March 6th, 1981

– “Ceremony” was one of the last Joy Division songs to be composed, with lyrics written by Ian Curtis

– “Ceremony” was New Order’s debut single after they had changed their name from Joy Division.

– It was released as a single twice, first in March 1981 and then in September 1981, “Ceremony” was re-released with Gillian Gilbert playing guitar on the new recording just after she joined the band.

– “Ceremony” reached the #1 spot on the UK Independent Singles Chart.
