What do The Bee Gees, Kraftwerk and Mattel Toys all have in common?

Back in 1978 Mattel Toys released the Bee Gees “Rhythm Machine” Electronic Music Synthesizer toy, then in 1981 on their eighth studio album ‘Computer World’ German electronic music band Kraftwerk used it in the song “Pocket Calculator”.

Below are two videos, in the first one the band is playing “Pocket Calculator” live and you can see the Rhythm Machine being used (although it had been painted black), and in the second video “Pocket Calculator” (or Mini Calculatore as it’s known in Italian) is being played on Italian TV with Ralf Hütter singing in Italian.

As an extra special treat I found a webpage where you can play the keyboard on your laptop or PC, click HERE to play a Macromedia Flash version of the Bee Gees Rhythm Machine.
