The story goes that Malcolm McLaren needed the original Ian Curtis’ vocals of the song isolated from the music for use in the track “Love Will” that he prepared for his 2002 “Diorama” album. After having contacted his old pal Tony Wilson, legendary founder of Joy Division’s record label, McLaren received the isolated vocal tapes via Britannia Row studios.

During the final stages of the production Marc Durif from French electronics band Nova Nova was asked to oversee final production of some of the “Diorama” tracks and when he heard that Peter Hook had already included his remix of “Love Will” in his DJ-sets (given by Tony Wilson, who in turn received it from McLaren for approval) he send Hook “Love Will Tear Us Apart” in a special acoustic piano arrangement as a present.

It premiered by Peter Hook on BBC Radio 4 during “Great Lives” that aired on Friday May 9th 2008 (Season 15 of which episode 6 was dedicated to Ian Curtis). The remix remains unreleased to this day.
