Sonic More Music Premiers ‘Book Ends’ by Josh Richardson [Listen]

‘Book Ends’ is two EPs from musician Josh Richardson: the ambient EP “Spheres,” which takes inspiration from German philosopher Peter Sloterdijk’s metaphysical magnum opus of the same name.  And, the droning doom EP “When I die, put me in a plastic bag and throw me in the gutter,” which takes its title from a quote from painter Francis Bacon – whose painting also provides the album’s gnarling sonic inspiration.

Book Ends continues Richardson’s experimentation with solo guitar and electronics in which he is testing the limits of both the guitar and the listener.  “Spheres” provides the listener with soothing soundscapes of guitar washes and bubbling bleeps, while “When I die…” pummels the ears with droning distortion and sonic dread. Music is the book end, you are the book.
