Broadcast on CBC, Sep 18, 1987 – Hosted by former SCTV comedian Dave Thomas, the spectacular CASBY Rock Show featured winners of CFNY’s 1987 Casby Music Awards plus nominees and winners from previous years: Luba, Pursuit of Happiness, Eight Seconds, Bruce Cockburn, Billy Newton-Davis, Colin James, Carole Pope and The Box, as well as three international guest groups: OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark), The Fixx and XTC. Joining host Dave Thomas (who also appears as TV evangelist Jimmy Swaggart, television critic Bill Needle and comedian Bob Hope) is Saturday Night Live comedian Jan Hooks. Jan reprises her role as “lounge singer Candy Sweeney” as she sings a medley of Canadian hits with Dave’s Bob Hope. She also is interviewed as Tammy Faye Bakker by comedian/actor Fred Willard. As well, Willard appears in a sketch with perennial CASBY favorite (and musical director of the David Letterman Show) Paul Shaffer. In that sketch Willard has, in the words of CASBY producer Sandra Faire, “a small but pivotal role as a clock”
