On this day in 1982, Prince released ‘1999’

1999t

Prince’s fifth studio album ‘1999’ was released on October the 27th 1982 and went on to be one of the most influential albums of his career. With ‘1999’ Prince gave the world what was termed the Minneapolis sound , you can hear the influence in such artists as The Time, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Morris Day, Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, Ta Mara & the Seen, Sheila E., Jesse Johnson, Brownmark, Mazarati, and The Family. Of course Prince’s next album ‘Purple Rain’ would go on to be the most successful album of his career;  ‘1999’ laid the ground work for what was ahead. When I look at the tracklisting for ‘1999’ there’s not one filler on the album, the mark of a true classic.
