Joy Division’s ‘Closer’ was released on this day in 1980


posthumous-joydivisionJoy Division’s second and final studio album ‘Closer’ was released on July 18 1980 just two months after the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis. The album cover was designed by Martyn Atkins and Peter Saville, with photography by Bernard Pierre Wolff. The photograph on the cover is of the Appiani family tomb in the Cimitero Monumentale di Staglieno in Genoa, Italy.

Did you know? Ian Curtis played a melodica on the song “Decades” and guitar on “Heart and Soul”.
