LL Cool J’s Debut Album ‘Radio’ was released on this day in 1985

November the 18th 1985 saw the release of what would go down as a Hip-Hop classic….LL Cool J‘s debut album ‘Radio’. LL Cool J (an acronym for Ladies Love Cool James) who was 16 at the time dropped out of school to record the album which was produced entirely by Rick Rubin with a remix by DJ Jazzy Jay, the production was praised for its stripped down feel, like a beatbox cranked up real loud…and was noted for bridging the gap between the old-school and the burgeoning new school hip-hop scenes.

‘Radio’ would go on to sell over 500,000 copies in its first five months, eventually selling over 1 million copies by 1988.
